In the initial baseball polls of the season the NJCAA places three teams in the top 20.

In division I, defending Region 10 and Eastern District champion Florence-Darlington Technical College received the #16 ranking in the initial poll of the season.  The 2017 Stingers, who finished with a 42-19 record, reached the Juco World Series after defeating USC Lancaster in the Eastern District Final. The Florence Darlington Tech opens up the season on February 3rd at home against USC Union.

In division II the region saw two teams receive top 20 rankings.  Region 10 and Southeast District champion Pitt Community College headlines the group with a top 10 ranking at #6 while Catawba Valley Community College enters the poll at #17.  The Pitt Bulldogs finished 2017 with a 42-9 record and a World Series run that saw the team finish 5th.  Catawba Valley finished 31-25 last season and fell in the Region 10 quarterfinals to Brunswick.  Both teams will open up their season at home on February 10 with #6 Pitt taking on DI Region 10 team USC Sumter and #17 Catawba Valley taking on Piedmont International JV.
